Coffee or Tea and how do you make it?

Two hands hold mugs on a cozy knitted blanket. One mug has tea, the other has frothy coffee. Warm, relaxed atmosphere with neutral tones.

Something so simple as a cup of coffee or tea has a lovely way of becoming cherished daily ritual. As Emilee shares, "I saw online someone say they are at the age that at bedtime they are already thinking about their excitement for tomorrow’s cup of coffee. I feel that." And, Ashley shares, "It’s less about the caffeine and more about the ritual. It’s comforting. It’s grounding. It just feels like me."

So, today we share just what we fill our mugs with - and how. Because sometimes it is the little things that not only offer a reset, but also a connection. Sometimes we chat about big important things and sometimes we share the little important things and see just how much they can impact the everyday.

I’ve been drinking coffee since college. Before Keurigs and Starbucks were ubiquitous with coffee, we would go to The Coffee Beaneary at the mall and get a basic latte, but mostly just made a pot at home.

My taste and system haven’t changed much since then. I appreciate good coffee and sometimes wonder if an espresso machine is the right move. Instead, I’ve stuck with good old-fashioned drip coffee. I use ground coffee like Peet’s or Starbucks - honestly, I usually buy what’s on sale. I prep the machine the night before and hit START when I wake up. The best part of my coffee maker is that the carafe is stainless steel, not glass. This ensures it never burns, but stays warm for my husband, who wakes up an hour or two after me.

I love a flavored coffee creamer - peppermint mocha, cinnamon caramel, or French vanilla - and add a few tablespoons to my cup. That’s it! One cup per day, first thing in the morning, and I’m a happy girl.

On the weekends, I often treat myself to a Cinnamon Dolce Latte from Starbucks when I’m headed out to run errands or a game/event for my kiddo.

I’m definitely a both kind of girl but if I had to choose, coffee wins every time.

My morning starts with a big glass of water, and then I make my coffee. It’s always half decaf, half flavored, and always black. I drink it out of one of my favorite mugs, and honestly, it’s less about the caffeine and more about the ritual. It’s comforting. It’s grounding. It just feels like me. I don’t even always finish the whole cup, but I love having it alongside breakfast. Sometimes I’ll even reheat it after my workout and sip it with a snack.

Because of reflux, I can’t go heavy on caffeine, so everything is pretty controlled; half decaf or decaf if I’m getting something out. A good latte feels like a treat, not a daily thing, and I keep it that way.

Tea, on the other hand, is my cozy backup. Especially in the afternoon, on a rainy day, or sitting at a freezing hockey rink (which, living in New England, is basically half the year). There’s just something about holding a warm cup of tea that makes everything feel calmer.

And one random hill I will die on: I love my Ninja coffee maker. After years of Keurig (sorry, but… gross), using real ground coffee just tastes so much better. It feels like a small upgrade that makes a big difference in my day.

So yes, both! But coffee is part of my daily life in a way tea just isn’t.

I saw online someone say they are at the age that at bedtime they are already thinking about their excitement for tomorrow’s cup of coffee. I feel that.

Why is that first cup so therapeutic?! I personally drink mine black and prefer our coffee from home. However I have see those beautiful iced coffees people make and am so envious over their aesthetically-pleasing looks. But for now, I like mine black. Sometimes in the fall I will add pumpkin creamer, but overall, nothing too exciting.

As for tea, I find a hot cup of tea (no iced tea here!) so comforting. I like green tea but usually with a squeeze of lemon. I also like a cup of calming tea before bed.

My neighbor make the most amazing tea ever. It tastes like Christmas and fall and everything cozy. She makes it year round. I go to her house every Sunday night for meditation and she always serves me cup of that tea before we begin. I look forward to it every week.

Coffee all day, please! I genuinely look forward to my first cup every morning. There’s something about that quiet moment before the house wakes up—coffee in hand, book open—that feels like the best kind of reset. We’re a classic drip coffee-at-home family, and I keep it simple with just a splash of sweet cream in my morning cup.

By the afternoon, though, I like to switch things up and make it feel a little more fun—maybe a different creamer flavor or, every now and then, a treat while I’m out. I don’t stop at Starbucks often, but if pistachio is on the menu (especially in a latte or cold brew), I’m absolutely saying yes to that little indulgence.

A mug with matcha latte on a marble counter, surrounded by a milk frother, matcha, oat creamer, and almond milk. Mug text: "let the adventure begin".

Is there any better smell than coffee in the morning? While I love, love the smell and used to love coffee, something about it gives me a headache. So, I have dabbled with just about every type of tea. I love peppermint tea, raspberry tea, turtle rooibos - all of it! I aspire to be someone who has an extensive tea collection - like a fancy restaurant that brings over a special case of tea...life goals!

My current obsession is a matcha latte. To be honest, this started with buying a large bag of matcha from Costco and figuring out what to do with it. A friend recommended Trader Joe's brown sugar oat creamer and a frother. So, first I put matcha and water in a frother. Then, I froth almond milk and the oat creamer. Pour it all togehter and it is a little taste of heaven that I look forward to most days. This little concocation is one of those small details of the day that brings me a little joy and a little peace.
