What is your Favorite Guilty Pleasure?

While one could argue that indulging in something that fills you up shouldn't leave you feeling guilty, we all have that one thing that we just love and others may not "get."

As Rebecca writes, "I agree with Dave Grohl, who said 'I don't believe in guilty pleasures. If you f’ing like something, like it.' I don’t feel any guilt for liking what I like, but I do know that my taste in music might be seen as…. different." Interestingly, we all have a different "guilty pleasure" - and while they each may raise a few eyebrows, we unapologetically share them here. Perhaps you share one of them as well?

My guilty pleasure is coffee—but not just any coffee. I can’t do regular drip; it has to be a latte, mocha, or something equally indulgent. And more often than not, that means Starbucks. I’ve reached the point where I plan routes around mobile ordering, know the exact location of every Starbucks between home and wherever I’m headed, and consider a detour for coffee completely justifiable. When I visit a new town, one of my first missions is to find a cozy coffee shop—and yes, I do get a little thrill when it’s a familiar Starbucks with mobile order ready to go.

When I’m at my parents’ house, their nearest Starbucks is about 15 minutes away, which somehow feels like a cross-country journey when you're used to one on every corner. Still, I manage to come up with a reason to run to the grocery store just so I can swing by. At the airport, I’ve walked in the wrong direction—or rather, the right direction—for a good latte. And while I could technically survive without it, I get a headache without that caffeine hit, and nothing else tastes quite right. So yes, coffee is my guilty pleasure—but really, it’s Starbucks in a cup.

I agree with Dave Grohl, who said “I don't believe in guilty pleasures. If you f’ing like something, like it.” I don’t feel any guilt for liking what I like, but I do know that my taste in music might be seen as…. different.

I am a huge movie buff, and I am unapologetic in my love of movie soundtracks. I listen to instrumentals from Moneyball or popular music compliations from The Big Chill. The ones that I listen to the most are soundtracks from musicals. I have a list of favorites, but right now I’m obsessed with the soundtrack to Shrek the Musical. I will put it on and listen to the entire thing on repeat, regardless of who wants to hear it. On regular rotation are also: Hamilton, A Chorus Line, Lion King, Wicked, Encanto, and Aladdin. It makes for an interesting Spotify Wrapped at the end of the year!

Look, I know trash TV isn’t the most “nutrient-dense” form of entertainment, especially for women, and especially for someone in the health and wellness space. But hear me out: it gives me life.

There is nothing — and I mean nothing — like crawling into bed, makeup-free, wearing my mismatched pajamas, cranking the AC, and watching Summer House or Vanderpump Rules on Bravo. I get to shut off my brain, sip something cold, and watch young, dramatic, questionably-employed adults navigate friendships, relationships, and cocktail-fueled chaos in the Hamptons. And the best part? I’m not involved in any of the drama.

It’s my sacred time. Zero responsibilities. Zero expectations. Just pure, delicious background noise while I fully unwind.

And if I’m not watching Bravo, I’m reading smut — yep, I said it. I love a good spicy romance novel. I devoured the ACOTAR series (obviously), and I’m about to dive into the Windy City series next. I cannot wait to get lost in a fictional world filled with emotional tension and impossible-to-ignore chemistry.

Are these guilty pleasures the healthiest thing I do? Maybe not. But they keep me sane, entertained, and feeling like me. And that, in my book, is more than worth it.

Splurging on an experience would be my guilty pleasure. Whether that be a trip, fancy dinner, or adventure. The thrill and excitement of an experience energizes me! This includes individual things, with family, or with friends.

Recently our family enjoyed an absolutely amazing dinner at a highly regarded restaurant and the whole experience was AMAZING! Indulging in the whole experience of the atmosphere, multiple courses, drinks, and dessert absolutely filled my cup.

It is not often that we get to slow down in this era of our life so I look forward to the few experiences we try to splurge on through the year. I find so much joy in preparing, planning, and experiences this guilty pleasure!

Are you ready to roll your eyes at me? Shopping, shopping and more shopping. I LOVE the experience of shopping. Clothes shopping, furniture shopping, in store, online, outside mall, inside mall …I love it all!

One of my favorite ways to spend a day is walking around a cute downtown and bopping in and out of stores/local boutiques. We have a great outdoor mall near us with all the fun stores. Living in Chicagoland gives us access to so many fun areas to explore.

I especially enjoy shopping and dining out on vacation. Exploring the downtown areas of where we are staying, stopping in a restaurant for a drink or quick meal in between stores is a true delight.

Shopping is a guilty pleasure because it can feel self-indulgent and not the best use of time. However, it is a way I love to relax and be entertained. Even just laying in bed perusing online stores - LOVE!

Ok, I looked up the definition of "guilty pleasure" and found - "something that one enjoys despite feeling that it is not generally held in high regard." So, I suppose that depends on the company you keep as I'm sure some may identify with your guilty pleasure and others may in fact not understand your idiosyncrasy. For instance, Emilee's guilty pleasure is shopping and sign me up- I'll shop with her any day. But, I digress from this this random philosophical discussion and will share my favorite "guilty pleasure" that always raises a few eyebrows.

I sleep through movies. Pretty much all movies - at home, in the theatre, it doesn't matter. And, at this point, I don't really try to stay awake. I remember the first time I slept through a movie with my husband - it was a Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Super loud, tons of action - slept through about 70% of it. It was a lovely $12 nap, although I'm sure it made me a lousy date. True confession - I dozed off at Hamilton. I really didn't want to sleep through such a masterpiece, so I sat on my leg so it would hurt and the pain kept me awake (I can't believe I just shared that!). At home, I have even less chance of staying awake. So, I RARELY pick the movie and when it ends, my kids usually ask - "how long did you last?" So, this is why if you ever ask me if I've seen a movie - I will say, probably not and if so, I don't remember.
